The U.S. legal immigration system is overwhelmed and subjects immigrants to agonizing waiting periods that can extend from years to decades for approvals. Black immigrants, particularly those from African countries, bear a disproportionate share of this lengthy process and often slip through its cracks. They face difficulties in fully engaging with financial systems, which hinders their ability to contribute towards personal and community economic stability.
